In this fast moving society, multi-tasking is a valuable trait, which applies to both people and objects. Fusing technology and furniture into a single object, Singapore-based designer Zyane Tan has come up with a multifunctional unit called “Sony Fusion” that apart from being used as a regular coffee table becomes a high performance desktop for the geeks. The Sony Fusion is a simple coffee table with clean structured lines, made of matte black aluminum with a sleek chrome lining, supported by arched chrome legs. At the push of the power button, the table top splits in half and elegantly slides apart to reveal a trendy touch-sensitive keyboard outlined by LED lights. The adjustable screen can be angled in different directions to allow an ideal work position to the users, while the slot-loaded DVD drive and headphone jack can be found on the sides of the table. Available in blue, white and red, the Sony Fusion when it comes into production would cost about $3000.

Garden Office Design

I came across this fantastic looking garden office on the Workalicious website. I really like the minimal feel to the space that the white furniture creates. And of course the iMac makes this office even more appealing as I’m a bit of a Mac nut. Can’t wait for March to get my hands on the new iPad and give it a test drive. If you have an office space you’re proud of, send me a photo and I’ll feature them in this section of the blog.

Fold Flat Desk

Fold Flat Desk

Dutch designers Kapteinbolt have created a flexible workplace, called FLKS. The furniture features a desk and chair that fold out from two hinged sheets. Design firm Kapteinbolt says: ”We like to introduce FLKS (flex), a flexible workplace. Just open the panels unfold the table and the chair and put the plug in for light. The legs from the table and the chair are provided with special designed joints, pull and turn 90°.

The dimensions of the panels are a combination of sizes according to the Modulor of Le Corbusier in combination with the functional human sizes of today. This design is characterized by simplicity, clarity, freedom and space. Freedom in using and in arranging this workplace.

The dialogue between the space and furniture, but also the spaciousness of the furniture itself is an important fact. By bringing furniture back to the essence you can create space. The FLKS provides a definition of space. By giving cover to the back and to one of the sides, the FLKS creates a private and comfortable workplace.”

New Eco Furniture

New Eco Furniture

EcoBuzzWheatLow-JPG

Baltix is currently in the process of reengineering the ecoBuzz workstation and accessories.  The new product collection, called Baltix Classics, will include a series of design changes that will result in a finished product that is highly durable, functional, aesthetically pleasing, highly green and offered at a competitive price.  Baltix Classics will include workstations, pedestal files, lateral files and bookcase product options.

Baltix was incorporated in 1999 as a small custom furniture manufacturer located in the Twin Cities.  After finding initial success with a design of Baltic birch hardwood solutions that targeted the technology industry, the mission of the company was refocused to pursue environmentally friendly sustainable solutions. This approach more closely matched the owners’ personal commitment of “doing the right thing” for the environment as well as creating healthier product options for our clientele.

Since 2003, our team has directed a significant amount of resources toward the R&D of green materials that are currently being used in our sustainable products.  First and foremost, we have learned that it is critical to create solutions that are highly durable, functional, aesthetically pleasing and easy to maintain.  What makes Baltix different is the fact that our comprehensive product line is made from the widest palette of green materials currently offered in the marketplace.

Baltix has grown from a Minnesota based local provider of sustainable office solutions to our current coverage model that includes the U.S. and Canada.  Our intent is to provide innovative eco-friendly products to corporate organizations and institutions that have made a commitment to environmental stewardship and a healthier environment for their employees.  Additionally, Baltix will intersect with LEED projects that are rapidly expanding across multiple industry sectors across the country.
