About the Author

Who is Nexus Publishing? Originally from a small town called Darlaston – about ten miles north of Birmingham – I moved to West Sussex about ten years ago to help develop one of the first online retailers. Having recently moved to Shropshire I am now enjoying the working from home life in a semi rural location. I have been a freelance writer and journalist for about fifteen years. Eight of them were spent doing various other jobs such as bookshop assistant, print finisher and returns clerk for a large library supplier, with the writing taking up evenings and any of my spare time. As you can see, much of my life so far has been spent working with books and publishing of one kind or another. My time as an employee came to a conclusion some six years ago with redundancy, so I took the opportunity – and the money – to see if I could survive as a full-time freelance writer. That was five years ago. There have been some lean times – just ask my wife, Joanne. But after tasting the freelance life, there’s no going back.

Aerobed

Research has continued to show that napping during the day can actually improve productivity. This kind of activity is a long way off on the traditional workplace. I can’t see many bosses being OK with any of their staff missing a meeting because they had to get their power nap in for the morning!

For homeworkers things are a little different. We recently bought an inflatable bed as we are having our nephew to stay the weekend in a couple of weeks. We went for an Aerobed as it inflates in seconds thanks to its built-in pump and packs away into a small bag when you’re not using it.

It struck me that coupled with the Sound Asleep pillow you can read about in another post, you’d have the perfect power-napping combo. What’s more, if you need to pull an all nighter to meet a deadline you can inflate the Aerobed in your office and crash when you need to without disturbing the rest of your household.

I also like the fact that the bed can be inflated to give excellent support to your back and neck. If you like a rock hard mattress, you can pump enough air into the Aerobed to make it feel like you’re sleeping on a slab of concrete. You can’t over inflate the bed as it has some clever electronics to sort that out. If you suffer from back pain after a few hours at your desk, a few minutes on a suitably inflated Aerobed could be just the ticket to keep your MSD under control.
